Join Sinéad Hingston-Green this September for a meaningful journey of reflection and renewal along the Portuguese Coastal Camino. This stunning section of the Portuguese Coastal Camino takes you from the vibrant city of Porto to the beautiful village of Baiona, tracing a scenic route along the Atlantic shoreline. Over six walking days, you’ll explore seaside boardwalks, historic towns, golden beaches, and peaceful fishing villages, finishing with a well-earned rest day by the sea. With a mix of culture, coastal charm, and Camino camaraderie, this journey is the perfect blend of adventure and relaxation.

Day 1: Arrive in Porto
Arrive at Porto Airport and transfer to your accommodation. Spend the remainder of the day exploring Porto’s historic centre, known for its riverfront and port wine cellars. Enjoy exploring the old city before your walk starts tomorrow morning.

Day 2: Matosinhos to Póvoa de Varzim
Walk from Matosinhos to Póvoa de Varzim (21 km)
After a short transfer to Matosinhos, begin your walk along the Portuguese Coastal Camino. You will walk along wooden boardwalks and seaside promenades through fishing villages and sandy beaches. Your day finishes in the resort town of Póvoa de Varzim.

Day 3: Póvoa de Varzim to Esposende
Walk from Póvoa de Varzim to Esposende (25 km)
Today’s walk continues north along the Atlantic coast through dunes, farmlands, and quiet coastal settlements. The route follows scenic boardwalks and paths before reaching the riverside town of Esposende.

Day 4: Esposende to Viana do Castelo
Walk from Esposende to Viana do Castelo (26 km)
Walking through a beautiful landscape of pine forests, farmland, and coastline. You will pass through small villages before crossing the Eiffel Bridge over the Lima River into the historic town of Viana do Castelo.
Overnight: Viana do Castelo
Day 5: Viana do Castelo to Vila Praia de Âncora
Walk from Viana do Castelo to Vila Praia de Âncora (19 km)
Today, you will follow a mix of coastal trails, beaches, and rural paths with views of the sea and the surrounding countryside. You will arrive at the charming seaside town of Vila Praia de Âncora.

Day 6: Vila Praia de Âncora to Oia
Walk from Vila Praia de Âncora to Oia (27 km)
Leaving the forested paths behind, your walk continues along the sands of Praia de Moledo before leading you onto a peaceful boardwalk into the charming town of Caminha — your final stop in Portugal. From here, you’ll cross the Minho River by ferry into Spain, arriving in the coastal town of A Guarda. Take time to stroll the rugged peninsula or enjoy a relaxed coffee overlooking the ocean. The final stretch brings you along a gentle coastal route to the quiet village of Oia, with sea views accompanying you the whole way. It’s a day of varied scenery, soft steps, and seaside calm.

Day 7: Viladesuso to Baiona
Walk from Viladesuso to Baiona (16km)
This stage takes you from Viladesuso to the vibrant fishing town of Baiona, where the charm of the Atlantic accompanies your journey. You can choose between walking along the shoreline for uninterrupted ocean views or taking the official Coastal Way, which meanders slightly inland through peaceful landscapes. Both options offer a similar distance and a serene walking experience.
As you approach Baiona, its historical allure becomes evident, with the town’s bustling harbour and inviting cafes and restaurants ready to greet pilgrims. Whether you enjoy the coastal breeze or prefer to explore the quieter inland route, Baiona’s mix of maritime heritage and modern comforts makes for a delightful destination.

Day 8: Departure
Transfer to the airport for your journey home.

- Portuguese Camino Stage 1 with Sinead Hingston-Green
- Meet and greet on arrival in Santiago and private coach transfer to your accommodation.
- Sinead Hingston Green will accompany the group; however, please note that this is a self-guided walking trip on the Camino.
- Walking Notes will be provided with your documents to help you along the way.
- Six days self-guided walk to Santiago, averaging approximately 15-20 km per day.
- 7 Nights 2/3* Hotel accommodation with private facilities. We have chosen popular family-run hotels along the route. Accommodation is generally simple, tried and tested and in line with a typical Camino experience, mostly on or beside the Camino route.

- Transfers are available on the day of arrival at approximately 21:15 and the day of departure at 21:45 for flights arriving/departing at the same time as the Ryanair flights to/from Porto.
- You can purchase an optional transfer to Porto on arrival for €50 if you book a different flight time or airline.
- You can meet the group at the airport at 21:15 for the transfer to Porto.
- Transfers on the day of departure will not be available for flights other than the flight departure listed above, but Taxis and Buses are readily available to bring you to the airport from Santiago de Compostela City.
- This is a holiday. You might decide to take a chill day from walking. It is perfectly ok to take a taxi back to the hotel if you want to take a break.

Walking the Camino
- 100 km is the minimum distance required for pilgrims to receive the ‘Compostela Certificate’
- Collect stamps from the places you pass through to certify that you have been there. Stamps can be obtained from Churches, Hostels, Town hall & Cafes.
- Collect Two Stamps per day to receive your ‘Compostela Certificate’.
- The route is well marked (the bike signs can be confusing, so you must stay alert).
Cancellation Policy
Up to 60 days before travel = loss of deposit
60 – 30 days before travel = 50% cancellation charges
30-15 days before travel 75% cancellation charges
Inside 14 days 100% cancellation charges: NO REFUND.

Name changes may be allowed subject to the agreement our suppliers/partners as follows:

- Helpful Tips
- Camino Travel Tips
- Break in your walking boots and socks to prevent blisters. It is also a good idea to have worn any clothing on long walks before you travel to make sure they are comfortable.
- Bring runners or ideally flip flops for evening time to give your feet at chance to breath & recover
- Pack a sports bottle & fill it each morning before you leave the hotel at breakfast
- Bring spare (dry!) socks in your backpack
- Get your pilgrim passport stamped in hotels, shops & restaurants along the Way. You must have walked 100km in order to receive your Compostela certificate of completion, in Santiago.
- If you have luggage transport booked with us, put your name on your luggage label and attach it to your case on the first morning. This will enable the driver to identify your bag and its destination each day.
- Buy a scallop shell on your first day & attach it to your rucksack
- A poncho is fantastic for any wet days to keep you, your clothing & your bag dry
- If you run out of battery on your camera/phone along the way, charge it in one of the many restaurants/cafes that you stop at. Just bring your adapter & lead. Or take a charged battery pack with you.
