Sarria to Santiago: 6 Days Walking & 1 Night in Santiago
Walk the last 115 km of the classic French Way of the Camino from Sarria to Santiago de Compostela (the minimum required to earn your Compostela). This is often viewed as one of the most historic routes, as you will walk through many varied landscapes, there are numerous reminders of the pilgrims past who travelled the route including crosses, statues and grain silos.
This final section of the walk takes you through the region of Galicia in Northern Spain to Santiago for a unique experience you’ll treasure forever through the undulating landscapes of Galicia. Enter the ancient city of Santiago de Compostela and relish the end of your journey at the Cathedral!

Day 1: Sarria
After making your way to Sarria you could possibly visit the old town, and you can choose to sample some of the local cuisines in one of the restaurants in Sarria.
Day 2:
From Sarria to Portomarín, (23Km).
This first stage goes through different towns where you can visit some Romanesque churches along paths and forest tracks.
On reaching Portomarín you have the opportunity to visit the Romanesque church of St. Nicholas and this pretty village with its peculiar history.
Day 3:
From Portomarín to Palas de Rei, (23Km)
First descend to the reservoir and then start climbing the hill to the Monte San Antonio, from where you will reach the villages of Toxibó and Gonzar.
Then go through different villages and small towns like Hospital de la Cruz, Ventas de Naron and Eirexe until Palas de Rei.
Day 4:
From Palas de Rei to Melide, (14Km)
Enjoy a shorter walk today as you travel from Palas de Rei to Melide walking through little villages and woodland areas. When leaving Palas de Rei you can have a leisurely walk through forests to Coto.
About noon you will reach Melide, halfway along this stage, where you can taste the octopus “pulpo” in one of its typical local cuisine restaurant called “pulpería”.
Day 5:
From Melide to Arzúa, (15Km)
Crossing eucalyptus forests today you will reach the village of Boente. The residents of Boente are famed for making the best cheese in the area. Take in a visit to its cross, the fountain of Saleta and, the beautiful church of Santiago before heading off for the village of Ribadiso. Ribadiso is a traditional Galician village where you can savour the tranquillity of a beautiful rural environment and a genuine pilgrim atmosphere before reaching Arzúa, you final stop for the evening.
Day 6:
From Arzúa to Arca, (20Km)
This stage also goes through eucalyptus forests and brings us even closer to our destination. You’ll pass through different towns, including Santa Irene close to Arca.
Day 7:
Arca to Santiago de Compostela, (20Km).
As you get closer to your destination you pass through the Monte del Gozo, whose name comes from the joy felt by the pilgrims when seeing the city for the first time.
Days 8:
In Santiago de Compostela
Spend a day visiting this beautiful city, proclaimed a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985. You can visit the market town, Plaza de Abastos or one of its museums e.g. the Museum of Pilgrimages and the Cathedral Museum. Then it’s time to make your way to the airport for your journey home.
