Trisha Lewis’s Camino Story

Trisha Lewis, an Irish chef and bestselling author, is one of the many Irish walkers who has felt the Camino’s power to shift confidence and perspective. She led a group of her followers, affectionately called her “transformers”, on a 6-day walk followed by 1 day in Santiago de Compostela.

Her fitness story resonated with many who joined her, as most were also on their own paths to self-improvement. Together, they formed a supportive community that made walking the Camino Francés route an unforgettable experience.

A Walk That Builds Personal Confidence

For many walkers, the Camino is more than a test of physical endurance. It can help you feel capable, steady, and proud of what your body can do. As Trisha found, Camino de Santiago preparation matters.

“Some days can be hilly,” she noted, which is a useful reminder to train before you travel. The route also gives you quieter moments to enjoy the scenery and connect with the people around you.

One of the great things about the Camino is that it means something different to everyone. For Trisha, it was about pushing her limits, both physically and mentally.

Community and Camaraderie

The group support mattered too. Trisha’s community of transformers encouraged each other with stories, motivation, and good humour as they moved toward Santiago.

Trisha also leaned on her coaches for guidance, which added another layer of support. Every walker had the chance to reflect on their individual goals while feeling part of a greater collective effort.

How to Prepare for the Camino de Santiago

Training helps you enjoy the Camino de Santiago with more confidence. Trisha Lewis spent a year preparing for her trek, and her dedication paid off. Feeling fitter and stronger, Trisha noted that physical preparation made the walk more enjoyable and manageable.

Physical Training and Endurance

With help from fitness coaches, Trisha focused on endurance, steady progress, and a positive mindset. That preparation helped her take on the hillier sections with more confidence.

Kit and Foot Care Essentials

Practical preparation also matters. Merino socks, walking poles, and a basic first-aid kit can make longer days more comfortable, especially if you want to reduce the risk of blisters on the Camino.

Like Trisha, you will need more than physical strength. Regular walking, hiking on varied terrain, and mental preparation can help you arrive prepared and ready to enjoy each day.

The Elation of Reaching Santiago

Walking into Santiago de Compostela after days on the Camino is an indescribable feeling of elation and accomplishment. For Trisha and her group, arriving in Santiago was the culmination of hard work, perseverance, and emotional growth. The city is the endpoint of the walk, but it also becomes the place where many walkers realise how far they have come.

Many pilgrims also collect their Camino passport stamps and certificates upon arrival, a meaningful keepsake that marks the completion of their walk. The Pilgrim’s Reception Office also explains the official Compostela Certificate requirements.

“The moment you step into Santiago, you’re filled with this overwhelming sense of achievement,” Trisha shared with her followers. That emotion stays with pilgrims long after they leave, as they reflect on the physical challenges they overcame, the friendships they built, and the lessons they learned along the way.

Why U Walk Splits the Route Into Six Days

The 5-day final stage covers the same classic Sarria to Santiago route, but the 6-day version gives walkers a little more breathing room. U Walk splits the longer Palas de Rei to Arzúa stretch into 2 shorter days: Palas de Rei to Melide at 14 km, then Melide to Arzúa at 15 km.

This makes the week feel more manageable because you still walk the final 115 km of the Camino Francés, but with a steadier rhythm across the middle of the route. The trip includes 6 walking days and 1 night in Santiago.

Budgeting for the Camino

U Walk arranges your accommodation with breakfast and daily luggage transfers, so your main daily spending is lunch, dinner, snacks, drinks, and personal items.

On average, pilgrims spend €30-€50 per day on food and personal items. Pilgrim restaurant meals typically cost €10-€12, while other expenses, like snacks or souvenirs, vary based on personal preference. Budgeting flexibility will help ensure a smoother experience.
