Camino Travel Tips
- How should I prepare my footwear and clothing?
Break in your walking boots and socks thoroughly before departure to prevent blisters. Test all clothing on long training walks prior to travel to ensure comfort. Bring trainers or flip-flops for the evenings to let your feet breathe and recover.
- What daily trail habits should I follow?
- Pack a reusable sports bottle and fill it each morning at breakfast.
- Carry a spare pair of dry socks in your daypack to change into mid-walk.
- Pick up a traditional scallop shell on day one and attach it to your rucksack.
- Bring a lightweight poncho—it covers you, your clothes, and your daypack during wet weather.
- Carry your phone charger lead and a power bank. Local cafes and restaurants along the route are happy to let you plug in while you stop for food.
- How do I earn my Compostela certificate?
You must complete at least 100 km on foot to qualify for the official Compostela certificate in Santiago. Collect at least two stamps (sellos) per day in your Pilgrim Passport from hotels, cafes, churches, and shops along the trail. (Your passport is posted to you in advance as part of your UWalk pre-departure pack).
- How does daily luggage transfer work?
Attach your UWalk luggage tag clearly marked with your name to your main bag (1 bag per person, max 20 kg) on the first morning. Leave it at hotel reception by 8:00 AM, and the driver will transport it to your next accommodation by early afternoon.
