This easy walking itinerary splits the journey over 6 manageable walking days (~18–20 km per day) with 1 final night in Santiago, allowing ample time to enjoy the varied landscapes, rustic villages, and lush green scenery of Galicia while easily completing more than the minimum distance required to earn your official Compostela pilgrim certificate.

Day 1: Arrive in Sarria

Arrive in the lively town of Sarria and check into your accommodation. Take the afternoon to wander along the historic Rúa Maior, visit the hilltop Church of Santa Mariña, and enjoy a traditional Galician dinner before your walk begins tomorrow.

Day 2: Sarria to Portomarín

Walk from Sarria to Portomarín (22 km)

Depart Sarria along quiet forest tracks, granite pathways, and oak woodlands past small rural hamlets before descending to the Belesar reservoir into Portomarín.

Day 3: Portomarín to Palas de Rei

Walk from Portomarín to Palas de Rei (24 km)

Climb the hill to Monte San Antonio, continuing through quiet agricultural countryside and small villages like Ligonde until you reach Palas de Rei.

Day 4: Palas de Rei to Melide

Walk from Palas de Rei to Melide (15 km)

Enjoy a leisurely walk through pine forests, quiet villages, and over ancient stone bridges into Melide.

Pass through fragrant eucalyptus forests and quiet rural hamlets like Boente and Ribadiso on your way into Arzúa.

Walk among meadows, oak trees, and eucalyptus groves, passing quiet hamlets such as Salceda and Santa Irene as you approach O Pedrouzo.

Day 7: O Pedrouzo to Santiago de Compostela

Walk from O Pedrouzo to Santiago de Compostela (25 km)

Pass through Lavacolla and climb Monte del Gozo for your first glimpse of the cathedral spires. Walk down into the historic center and finish your journey at the Cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.

Overnight: Santiago de Compostela

Day 8: Departure from Santiago de Compostela

Enjoy breakfast before check-out. Spend your remaining time exploring the UNESCO World Heritage Old Town or head to Santiago Airport (SCQ) for your return journey.

    Your main suitcase or duffel bag (1 piece per person, max 20 kg) is transferred directly between your accommodations each day. Simply leave your labeled bag at hotel reception by 8:00 AM, and it will be waiting at your next hotel by early afternoon.

    A light 20–30L daypack is all you need. Pack 1.5L of water, daily snacks, sun protection, a light waterproof jacket, your Pilgrim Passport (Credencial), and cash/cards for local cafes along the trail.
