Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. Which walking level should I choose (Moderate vs. Challenging)?
You don’t need to decide before you travel! On Day 2, our expert local mountain guides will hold a detailed briefing outlining the exact distance, terrain, and incline for both options. You can switch between Moderate and Challenging from day to day depending on how your legs feel.
-
Moderate Routes: Average 10km to 15km daily (~4–6 hours walking) with gentler inclines (+200m to +400m). Suitable for regular walkers with good general fitness.
-
Challenging Routes: Average 10km to 23km daily (~6–8 hours walking) with steeper ascents (+500m to +800m) and more rugged terrain. Designed for experienced, confident mountain hikers.
2. What currency is used in Slovenia, and can I use cards?
Slovenia uses the Euro (€). Credit and debit cards are widely accepted in hotels, shops, and restaurants in Lake Bohinj, Lake Bled, and Kranjska Gora. However, carrying some cash is recommended for small mountain huts (koča), remote cafes, or tipping.
3. Are all meals included on this holiday?
Yes! This is a full-board walking package. It includes 7 breakfasts, 5 packed lunches prepared for your walking days, and 7 hearty evening meals served at your hotels. You only need to cover your drinks and any extra treats or coffees along the trails.
4. Why do we fly into Venice if the holiday is in Slovenia?
Venice Airport (Italy) provides the quickest and most reliable flight connections from Ireland for accessing northwestern Slovenia. The transfer through northern Italy into the Julian Alps is a scenic 3- to 4-hour drive with scheduled comfort stops along the way.
5. Why is this a dual-base (two-hotel) holiday?
Slovenia’s Julian Alps are diverse! Staying 4 nights at Lake Bohinj gives us direct access to the southern national park trails and Lake Bled, while moving to Kranjska Gora for 3 nights positions us perfectly for the northern waterfalls, Vršič Pass, and the Soča Valley without long daily drives.
6. What happens if weather conditions are bad?
Safety always comes first. If rain or high winds affect high-altitude routes like Slemenova Špica or mountain passes, your guide will adapt the route to lower, sheltered valley trails or gorge walks so you still get a fantastic day’s hiking safely.
