Total Distance: 72 km | Difficulty: Moderate (Level 2)
Day 1:
Arrive in Assisi Your journey begins in the breathtaking town of Assisi. Spend your afternoon visiting the Basilica of St. Francis (a UNESCO site) or wandering the Roman ruins hidden beneath the medieval streets.
Day 2:
Assisi to Spello (16km) A spectacular first day! Ascend the slopes of Monte Subasio to the Eremo delle Carceri, where St. Francis retreated for prayer. Continue through dense oak forests before a long descent into the “pink city” of Spello
Day 3:
Spello to Foligno (7-21km) Choose your pace today. Take a leisurely walk through olive groves and vineyards to the vibrant town of Foligno, or opt for a longer, scenic loop via the high village of Collepino for 360-degree views.
Day 4:
Uppello to Bovara di Trevi (14km) A short morning transfer takes you to Uppello to start your walk. Pass the 11th-century Rocca di Scandolaro castle and follow an ancient Roman aqueduct into Trevi, the “Capital of Olive Oil.”
Day 5:
Bovara di Trevi to Poreta (12km) Follow the “Via Francescana” through the hills. You’ll pass the high walls of the Pissignano monastery and enjoy constant views of the Spoleto Valley. Your home for the night is a charming hamlet in Poreta.
Day 6:
Poreta to Spoleto (13km) A narrow, scenic trail leads you past the 12th-century frescoes of Santa Maria di Reggiano. Choose the “spectacular variant” to enter Spoleto by crossing the Ponte delle Torri—a massive 14th-century aqueduct bridging the gorge.
Day 7:
Arrivederci Spoleto The tour concludes after breakfast. Be sure to visit the Roman Theatre or enjoy a final lunch of Strangozzi pasta with black truffles before heading home.
