Mayrhofen Austria

About This Walk

Mayrhofen, a friendly town in the Ziller Valley, packed with local Tyrolean culture and Scenic Mountain walks.

Soak up the scenery

Spectacular scenery is what Mayrhofen’s all about. And with lots of cable cars up the mountain, it’s easy to reach the best views. Stop at the top for a slice of lip-smacking apple strudel with a beautiful mountain backdrop. Or take to the wonderful walking paths, which pass flower-filled meadows, mountain cows and even a glacier.

The best of Tyrol

One thing Mayrhofen does have is plenty of cafés, craft shops and bars to stop at along your way. It’s a perfect example of Tyrolean hospitality – top quality hotels and world class spas sitting alongside traditional buildings, friendly restaurants and bars and the beautiful church. The evenings tend to get pretty lively too, with lots of local spots to enjoy traditional music and dancing.

3* Hotel Obermair

Starting out life as a simple guesthouse, the Hotel Obermair has transformed into a popular, no frills hotel.

Over the years, they’ve added an annexe, an indoor pool and a nice wellness area. But through all the changes, the Obermair hasn’t lost its traditional charm and typical Austrian wooden panelling throughout.

The majority of our rooms are in the annexe – they’re a little bit dated and this is reflected in the price. If you’re planning on spending a bit more time in your room then you may want to choose one in the main building. The bedrooms in there are with a more classic Alpine style and comfortable furnishings.

Location wise you’re just on the edge of town. The nearest bars and restaurants are just a couple of minutes away and the Penken gondola is only about a 12-minute walk. If you plan on getting out and about a little further into the Ziller Valley, the bus and train stations are both close by too.

Just so you know all facilities are located in the main hotel building.

Please note that safety standards around balconies, railings and public walkways are different in Austria and may be lower or have ornamental features that you wouldn’t see in the UK or Ireland.
For your own safety and that of everyone you’re travelling with, please make sure you take care not to lean on or over any railings. If you have children under 12 years, please make sure they’re supervised and not left alone at any time.
